Indian Embassy in Italy Issues Advisory Amid Protests, Urges Nationals to Avoid Crowded Areas
ROME, October 19, 2026 [VoM News]: The Indian Embassy in Italy on Monday advised Indian nationals to exercise caution and avoid crowded areas amid protests and demonstrations reported in several Italian cities.
In an advisory, the embassy said demonstrations had taken place in some cities during the previous week and urged Indians to stay away from locations where protests were underway. It also advised them to monitor local news for updates.
The advisory comes amid demonstrations that Italian authorities say have witnessed incidents of violence in some areas.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said law enforcement personnel had faced attacks from groups she accused of exploiting demonstrations to provoke confrontations and disorder.
Meloni said stones were thrown at police officers in Milan, leaving some personnel injured. She also said people carrying cobblestones and window-breaking hammers were stopped in Turin, while disturbances in Bologna resulted in the precautionary closure of the railway station.
At the same time, Meloni said she respected thousands of people who participated peacefully in demonstrations, describing peaceful participation as an important part of democracy.
She urged opposition parties to unequivocally condemn violence during protests and called for demonstrations to remain peaceful.
The Indian Embassy has not announced any additional restrictions for Indian citizens but advised them to remain vigilant and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
