Students and faculty in Winter Zone Colleges of Jammu Face Heatwave Hardships; Demand Summer Vacation Orders
Naeem Ul Haq Wani
Despite the scorching heat across the region, the government has issued summer vacation orders only for Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir and the summer zone of Jammu Division. However, winter zone colleges of Jammu Division seem to have been overlooked, raising concerns among students and teachers alike.
According to the official order, Government Degree Colleges in Kashmir and the summer zone of Jammu Division have been granted summer vacations due to the prevailing heatwave. Yet, no such relief has been extended to colleges in the winter zone of Jammu, where temperatures are currently soaring even higher than those in the Kashmir region.
This negligence has sparked frustration among staff and residents. Speaking to local staff of winter zone colleges, many expressed their distress in extreme heat without any official holiday or respite.
Faculty and students have jointly appealed to the authorities to immediately issue summer vacation orders for winter zone Government Degree Colleges of Jammu Division, citing the intense heat and its adverse impact on health and education.
