In the context of the ODI World Cup, Australian bowler Mitchell Starc holds the record for the most five-wicket hauls, with three to his name. Apart from Starc, no other bowler has achieved more than two five-wicket hauls in the history of the tournament. Mohammed Shami has made his presence known in the ODI World Cup since his debut in the 2015 edition, accumulating an impressive tally of 36 wickets. His best figures in this prestigious competition are 5/54.

In the match, India took on New Zealand and chose to field first. The Indian team began on a strong note, reducing the Kiwis to 19/2 within the powerplay.
