S Jaishankar Unveils Rabindranath Tagore’s Bust in Vietnam and Engages with Indian Diaspora
On a diplomatic visit to Vietnam, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar undertook a series of significant events, showcasing the cultural, spiritual, and diplomatic connections between India and Vietnam.
Cultural Exchange in Bac Ninh Province Minister Jaishankar unveiled a bust of the renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore in Bac Ninh province. This gesture symbolizes the enduring cultural ties between the two nations. During his visit, he also had the privilege of enjoying a captivating performance by the Quan Ho Art Theater group from Bac Ninh province. This theater group will soon travel to India to participate in the 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in New Delhi, strengthening cultural exchanges.
Interacting with Indian Community Minister Jaishankar also took the opportunity to connect with members of the Indian diaspora in Bac Ninh province, reinforcing the deep-rooted bonds that link the Indian community to their homeland.
Phat Tich Pagoda: A Hub of Cultural and Spiritual Richness The External Affairs Minister visited the Phat Tich Pagoda, a Buddhist cultural center that holds significant cultural and sculptural treasures from the Ly Dynasty. This visit highlighted the spiritual and cultural connection between India and Vietnam. Minister Jaishankar met the Most Ven. Thich Thanh Nhieu of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha during his visit to the center.
Historical Ties and a Gift of Friendship While visiting the historical Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi, Minister Jaishankar celebrated the historical ties between India and Vietnam. This pagoda, featuring a Bodhi tree, was gifted by President Rajendra Prasad to President Ho Chi Minh in 1959, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Diplomacy and Bilateral Ties The External Affairs Minister’s visit to Vietnam includes co-chairing the 18th Joint Commission meeting, underscoring the robust Comprehensive Strategic Partnership shared by India and Vietnam. Vietnam is a key partner in India’s Act East Policy. The visit provides an opportunity to evaluate progress in various areas and explore further avenues for bilateral cooperation.
Future Engagements Following his visit to Vietnam, Minister Jaishankar will continue his diplomatic engagements in Singapore, emphasizing India’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic relationships and cooperation in the region.
