Srinagar: A comprehensive three-tier security system will be implemented at all counting centers across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure a safe and smooth vote-counting process. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PK Pole confirmed that all preparations have been finalized for the counting, scheduled for October 8.
“We have deployed a robust security framework to guarantee public safety and smooth operations during the counting process,” said CEO Pole.
This election holds historical significance as the first Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the first in over a decade. Voting took place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with an overall voter turnout of 63.88 per cent. Male voters accounted for 64.68 per cent, while female voters stood at 63.04 per cent.
Ahead of the vote counting, election officials have meticulously planned the logistics. Each constituency’s counting halls have been fully prepared with adequate tables to ensure an efficient, round-wise tally of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Additionally, the randomisation of counting staff is nearing completion, a key measure to maintain impartiality in the process. “This step is crucial to ensure fairness in the counting, and we are almost done with it,” officials noted.
Infrastructure for participants has also been arranged, including access to washrooms, drinking water, fire safety precautions, and on-site medical personnel.
The vote count, conducted under the strict supervision of the Election Commission, is expected to draw national attention as Jammu and Kashmir awaits the results of this pivotal election.
