Lebanese Health Minister Confirms Death Toll Nearing 2000
Key Highlights:
- Israeli airstrikes have killed 1,974 people in Lebanon, including 127 children.
- Over 40 medical and emergency personnel have died in the attacks.
- Healthcare facilities across Lebanon have suffered extensive damage.
Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firas Alabiad, revealed in a press conference that the death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October 8, 2023, has risen to 1,974, with 9,384 individuals injured. Among the dead are 127 children.
Alabiad further emphasized the devastating impact on medical staff and infrastructure, reporting that 40 emergecy workers and healthcare personnel have been killed, while numerous medical facilities have been severely damaged.
The strikes are part of Israel’s wider military campaign, which intensified after September 23, with Tel Aviv claiming its primary targets were Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. Despite these assertions, the Lebanese Health Ministry states that over 1,100 civilians have died in the strikes.
The ongoing violence comes amid a yearlong escalation of cross-border conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, exacerbated by Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
The conflict, which began after a Hamas attack last year, has resulted in nearly 41,800 deaths in Gaza, with the majority of casualties being women and children, according to reports.
This wave of Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon adds to the mounting humanitarian crisis, with both civilian casualties and critical infrastructure damage escalating daily.
