Srinagar, Aug 28: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced that he will not be participating in the upcoming assembly election campaign due to health-related issues.

The former Chief Minister revealed that on the night of August 25, he experienced acute chest pain while in Srinagar, which raised immediate concerns about his well-being.

In response to this health scare, Azad flew to Delhi the next morning and was admitted to AIIMS hospital, where he remained under medical supervision for two days. Although doctors have assured him that there is no immediate danger, Azad mentioned that he is dealing with other health conditions that necessitate ongoing medication and rest.

“These unforeseen circumstances have forced me to step back from the campaign trail,” Azad explained in a statement. He expressed his deep regret for not being able to support his party’s candidates during this critical juncture but emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health.

Azad also addressed the candidates from his party who have filed their nomination forms, urging them to consider their options in light of his absence.

“If they feel my absence would impact their chances, they have the freedom to withdraw their candidacy,” he said, acknowledging the challenging situation.

This decision marks a significant moment for the DPAP, as Azad’s presence has been a vital part of the party’s strategy.

As the election approaches, the party will need to navigate this unexpected development and determine its path forward without its leader actively campaigning.
