NC and Congress Form Pre-Poll Alliance, Agree on Seat Sharing in JK
Key Highlights:
- National Conference (NC) and Congress form pre-poll alliance in J&K.
- Seat sharing agreement: NC to contest 51 seats, Congress 32 seats.
- Friendly contests on five seats with inclusion of CPI(M) and Panthers Party.
In a significant political development, the National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have formalized a pre-poll alliance in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming elections. The two parties have reached an agreement on seat sharing, with NC set to field candidates from 51 constituencies, while the Congress will contest on 32 seats.
During a joint press conference, leaders from both parties announced the details of the alliance. They revealed that Congress, out of its 32 seats, will allocate one seat each to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Panthers Party, reducing its total contested seats to 30.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief, Tariq Hameed Karra, provided further insights into the alliance. He stated that the two parties have agreed to a “friendly contest” on five specific seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
This arrangement is intended to be conducted in a disciplined manner, reflecting the unity and cooperation between the allied parties.
The alliance between NC and Congress is seen as a strategic move to consolidate their positions and counterbalance the influence of other political entities in the region.
The seat-sharing agreement underscores the collaborative effort between the two parties to maximize their electoral prospects in the forthcoming elections.
By leaving seats for CPI(M) and Panthers Party, the Congress aims to broaden the coalition, bringing in additional political forces to strengthen the alliance’s appeal to a wider electorate.
This partnership highlights the importance of unity among opposition parties in J&K as they prepare to challenge the ruling parties in the elections.
