Key Highlights:
- BJP pulls back its initial list of candidates for J&K Assembly elections.
- A revised list is expected after a meeting at Amit Shah’s residence.
- Elections will be held in three phases, with results announced on October 4.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swiftly removed its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections from its official website shortly after its release. The move followed controversy surrounding the inclusion of certain candidates, prompting the party to reconsider its choices.
The original list featured 44 candidates, but within hours of its publication, the list was taken down, sparking speculation and discussions across political circles.
According to media reports, a revised list of candidates is expected to be issued following a key meeting at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The meeting is anticipated to address the concerns raised about the initial selection and to finalize a more suitable lineup of candidates to represent the BJP in the elections.
The initial list included prominent figures such as Er Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi from Pampore, Mohd Rafiq Wani from Anantnag West, and Devender Singh Rana from Nagrota.
Their names, along with others, had been expected to solidify the BJP’s presence in the region, but the abrupt withdrawal of the list has led to uncertainty about the party’s strategy moving forward.
The elections for the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly are scheduled to take place across three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results of the elections will be announced on October 4, determining the political landscape of the region for the coming years.
