Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif criticized the actions of the previous administration on Saturday, stating that the nation “is not being treated well” and was previously on track to achieve development goals and independence from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as reported by Geo News.
After being disqualified by the Supreme Court for failing to declare a payable salary, Nawaz resigned as prime minister in 2017. He lamented the court’s decision, saying, “Justice is offered to a man roaming in the street.” He questioned the necessity of decisions that increased the country’s suffering, highlighting that before his removal, the nation was effectively reaching milestones of development and prosperity.
Sharif expressed concerns over the rising electricity bills, which have become a burden for everyone, not just the poor. He claimed that his government had “eliminated load-shedding and controlled electricity rates.” He urged the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to “do everything to provide relief to the masses.”
During the same session, Punjab Secretary of Energy Dr. Naeem Rauf provided an overview of a new programme and announced the launch of a pilot project to test solar panel systems in various locations. The programme is set to go live on August 14, following the pilot project’s conclusion.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered authorities to introduce more relaxations in the Solar Panel Financing Scheme and expedite the launch of the renewable energy programme. The chief minister pledged drastic measures to help the populace, acknowledging that the cost of grains and power has severely impacted their financial situation.
