EC Orders Transfer of Officials in Five Poll-Bound States
In response to concerns about unsatisfactory performance and the need to maintain impartiality, the Election Commission has ordered the transfer of several officials in five poll-bound states. This action follows the recent announcement of election schedules for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram, and Rajasthan.
Immediate Transfers for Ensured Impartiality
The Election Commission has acted swiftly, directing the immediate transfer of several officers in the concerned states. These transfers include District Magistrates (DMs), Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police (SPs), Additional SPs, and Secretaries/Special Secretaries. The move aims to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted impartially, with a zero-tolerance policy for any partisan behavior.
Unsatisfactory Performance Addressed
In its review meetings, the Election Commission identified some officers whose performance was deemed unsatisfactory. The officers were found to be complacent or, in some cases, complicit. To address these concerns and maintain the integrity of the electoral process, the Commission has ordered these transfers.
Key Transfers and Impacted Areas
Notable transfers include the Commissioners of Police in Telangana for Warangal, Hyderabad, and Nizamabad. The Election Commission has also ordered the transfer of non-cadre SPs in Telangana. In Rajasthan, the SPs of Hanumangarh, Churu, and Bhiwadi have been transferred. Additionally, Secretaries and Special Secretaries in various states have been moved from their current positions.
Focus on an Inducement-Free Election
The Election Commission has taken several measures to ensure that elections are free from any inducements, including cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies. This focus includes intense reviews of sensitive routes and areas for the transport of illicit items. Enforcement agencies have been directed to work collaboratively and conduct joint operations. The Commission also emphasizes strict vigilance at inter-state border check posts to prevent the inflow of cash, liquor, and other inducements.
The actions taken by the Election Commission are part of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and inducement-free elections, ensuring that the democratic process remains untainted by external influences. The Commission continues to step up its efforts to maintain the integrity of the electoral process in these five states.
