A team of 10 Nepalese Sherpas, led by Dendi Sherpa, achieved a significant milestone by summiting Mount Everest, paving the way for the climbing season. Their successful ascent, which included critical rope-fixing tasks, enables foreign climbers with necessary permits to attempt the world’s highest peak.
Chun Bahadur Tamang, a section officer in Nepal’s Department of Tourism, highlighted the importance of the Sherpas’ accomplishment, emphasizing their role in facilitating climbing expeditions. The team, organized by Seven Summit Treks, received the responsibility of fixing ropes from Camp II to the Everest summit, showcasing their expertise and experience.
Before conquering Everest, the Sherpa team demonstrated their proficiency by opening the summit route on Mt. Lhotse. The meticulous preparation of challenging routes by these climbers ensures safe passage for mountaineers attempting the ascent.
With climbing permits issued to 414 climbers from 41 teams, including a significant number of women, this season marks a surge in interest in mountaineering. The revenue generated from mountaineering permits underscores the economic significance of mountaineering tourism in Nepal, highlighting the country’s appeal to climbers worldwide.
