In a statement posted on X late Thursday night, the White Knight Corps of the army reported that one officer had sustained injuries in a likely grenade accident at a post in Rajouri, emphasizing that the officer had been evacuated and was in stable condition after initial treatment.
Official sources have shed some light on the incident, revealing that there had been a firing practice ongoing at the camp for several days prior. The accused officer, without any apparent provocation, reportedly began firing upon his colleagues and subordinates on Thursday afternoon. He then sought refuge inside the camp’s armoury and hurled grenades when the commanding officer, along with his deputy and medical officer, attempted to persuade him to surrender.
Tragically, all three officers were injured when one of the grenades exploded in close proximity to them. Two other soldiers were also injured during the indiscriminate firing by the accused officer before he was eventually subdued.
