Indian and US Armies Strengthen Bonds through “Yudh Abhyas” Exercise in Alaska

In a demonstration of close military cooperation, a contingent of 350 Indian Army personnel participated in the 19th edition of the joint exercise “Yudh Abhyas” alongside the United States Army. This annual exercise, which aims to exchange best practices, enhance interoperability, and foster strong ties between the two armies, took place from September 25th to October 8th in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, USA.

As part of the exercise, Indian and US Army snipers conducted joint training in Alaska, showcasing their precision and tactical skills. Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, attended the closing ceremony of the exercise, expressing his pleasure at witnessing the collaboration between Indian and US soldiers. He extended his gratitude to the US Army and the 11th Airborne Division for their hospitality in hosting the troops.

The 11th Airborne Division, a US Army airborne formation based in Alaska, played a crucial role in facilitating the exercise. Both armies engaged in a series of tactical drills aimed at improving interoperability in conducting UN peacekeeping operations. The soldiers also engaged in discussions to share their experiences and best practices.

Notably, the exercise included high-angle rescue and casualty evacuation drills in challenging sub-zero Arctic conditions, as well as live-fire training exercises. The theme of the exercise centered on the “Employment of an Integrated Battle Group in Mountain/Extreme Climatic Conditions” under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate.

“EXERCISE YUDH ABHYAS-23” has served as an excellent platform for both armies to learn from one another and reinforce their strong bond of cooperation. This exercise further solidifies the partnership between the Indian Army and the United States Army, as they work together to enhance their preparedness and capabilities.
