US, Japan to Enhance Security Pact Signed 60 Years Ago
The US military plans to enhance the functions of its command headquarters in Japan to improve cooperation with Japan’s self-defense forces in addressing security threats posed by China and North Korea, according to diplomatic sources cited by Kyodo news agency.
Joint Response Capabilities
Japan and the United States will collaborate on further measures to enhance their response capabilities, with Tokyo aiming to establish a joint headquarters to command its ground, maritime, and air forces by the end of March 2025, deepening cooperation with the US military under Kishida’s government.
Growing Threats and Strategic Partnerships
Amidst escalating tensions with North Korea and China, Japan and the US are gearing up for talks to review their command and control operations. The upcoming summit between Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and President Joe Biden is expected to solidify strategic partnerships and address regional security concerns.
