Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Delivers First LCA Tejas Twin Seater to Indian Air Force
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) achieved a significant milestone by handing over the inaugural LCA Tejas twin-seater aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Bengaluru-based aerospace company emphasized that the twin-seater variant possesses the capabilities to fulfill IAF’s training needs and can also serve as a fighter aircraft when required. The ceremony, which included the unveiling of the LCA twin-seater and the delivery of the Release to Service (RSD) and Signalling out Certificate (SOC), was graced by Union Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt, and attended by Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, among other dignitaries.

LCA Tejas Twin Seater: A Technologically Advanced Marvel
The LCA Tejas twin-seater is a lightweight, all-weather, multi-role 4.5 generation aircraft that combines contemporary concepts and cutting-edge technologies. It boasts features like relaxed static-stability, quadraplex fly-by-wire flight control, carefree maneuvering, advanced glass cockpit, integrated digital avionics systems, and the use of advanced composite materials in the airframe. This achievement positions India among the select group of nations with operational capabilities of this caliber within their Defense Forces. It underscores the success of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative of the Government of India.
Strategic Significance and Future Deliveries
HAL highlighted the strategic significance of this historic event, emphasizing that the LCA twin-seater is designed to transition aspiring pilots from twin-seater variants to fighter pilots. HAL has received an order for 18 twin-seaters from the IAF, with plans to deliver eight of them in 2023-24. The remaining ten aircraft will be progressively delivered by 2026-27. Additionally, the company anticipates further orders from the IAF, solidifying the importance of this achievement in bolstering India’s air defense capabilities.
