Farooq Abdullah Expresses Disappointment Over Absence of Simultaneous Polls in Jammu and Kashmir
National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, voiced disappointment on Saturday regarding the absence of any mention of simultaneous polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Missed Opportunity for Simultaneous Polls
Expressing his dismay, Dr. Farooq Abdullah highlighted the absence of simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. He criticized the Government of India for failing to implement the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’, stating that the omission represents a missed opportunity.
Political Parties’ Requests to Election Commission
Dr. Farooq Abdullah noted that every political party, including the National Conference, had requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold simultaneous polls in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the importance of allowing the people to govern their region through democratic elections rather than under the authority of the Lieutenant Governor.
The National Conference leader alleged that there might be ulterior motives behind the delay in holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Dal Mei Kuch Kala Hai” (There is something fishy going on).
Call for Rethinking
Dr. Farooq Abdullah questioned the ECI’s decision to delay assembly elections despite sufficient security for Lok Sabha polls, urging them to reconsider their stance. He highlighted the missed opportunity for the Government of India to bridge the gap between Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi.
