Indian Air Force Expects Delayed S-400 Missile System Delivery Due to Russia-Ukraine Conflict

New Delhi, October 03 – The delivery of two squadrons of the S-400 air defense missile system from Russia to India has faced delays attributed to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari has expressed confidence that the remaining systems will be delivered within the next year.

    Delivery Hindrance Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

The original contract signed by India was for five S-400 systems, and so far, three have been successfully delivered. However, the Russia-Ukraine war has created challenges in the delivery process for the remaining two squadrons. Despite these obstacles, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari reassured that the Indian Air Force (IAF) is optimistic about receiving the outstanding systems within the next year.

Indigenous Project Kusha for Air Defense

During the annual press conference, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari also highlighted the IAF’s efforts to enhance its air defense capabilities through the Indigenous Project Kusha. This project aims to develop an indigenous long-range air defense system, providing India with self-reliance in this critical domain.

The IAF recently received clearance from the Ministry of Defence to proceed with the development of five units of Project Kusha. These units will contribute to the creation of an Indian version of the S-400 missile systems, ensuring the country’s security and reducing its dependency on foreign defense systems.

Multi-Layered Missile System for Enhanced Defense

The Indian version of the S-400 missile systems, developed under Project Kusha, is a multi-layered missile system with the capability to engage targets at a range of nearly 400 kilometers. This indigenous initiative is a collaborative effort involving private industry partners, representing a significant step toward bolstering India’s defense capabilities and self-sufficiency in missile technology.
