JP Nadda, BJP’s national president and representative for Himachal Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha, officially resigned from his position as Rajya Sabha MP. The chairman of the Rajya Sabha accepted his resignation, effective from March 4, 2024, as stated in the official announcement. Nadda’s move marks a significant shift in his political role.

Pawan Singh Withdraws from Lok Sabha Race

Pawan Singh, a popular Bhojpuri singer and BJP’s candidate from Bengal’s Asansol constituency, withdrew from the Lok Sabha race a day after being nominated. Singh, expressing gratitude to the party’s leadership, cited personal reasons for pulling out of the contest. This unexpected development adds a twist to the electoral dynamics in West Bengal.

In a blow to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), veteran leader and Baranagar MLA Tapas Roy resigned from the party, citing a lack of respect as a primary reason. Roy highlighted various issues, including scams and the Sandeshkhali incident, as contributing factors to his decision. His resignation adds to the political churn in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections.

BJP Releases First List of Lok Sabha Candidates

The BJP took an early lead by releasing its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The list showcases a mix of youth, women, and candidates from diverse backgrounds. Notable candidates include Prime Minister Narendra Modi contesting from Varanasi, Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna, and Manoj Tiwari from North-East Delhi. The list underscores the party’s focus on diversity and inclusivity.

The BJP’s candidate list features 47 youth, 28 women, 27 Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, 18 Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates, and 57 OBC/Backward Class nominees. Home Minister Amit Shah will contest from Gandhinagar, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh seeks re-election from Lucknow, and Smriti Irani will contest from Amethi once again. The release of the candidate list sets the tone for a competitive electoral battle.

As the political landscape evolves with resignations, withdrawals, and candidate announcements, the stage is set for a dynamic and closely watched Lok Sabha election in April-May.
