Crackdown by Baramulla Police 403 Drug Peddlers Arrested and Rs 12.28 Crore Worth of Drugs Recovered
In an unprecedented crackdown on drug peddlers, the Baramulla Police in Jammu and Kashmir have taken robust measures to combat the drug menace that has plagued the region for years. As of September 30th, the police have made remarkable progress in their battle against drug trafficking. Four key developments underline their relentless efforts:
The Arrests and Recovery Operation
The Baramulla Police have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice. They have successfully arrested a staggering 403 drug peddlers, among them, 62 hardcore individuals with deep-rooted involvement in the illicit drug trade. Furthermore, they have recovered drugs valued at a whopping Rs 12.28 crore, sending a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated in the district.
Legal Actions Under NDPS Act
Taking legal actions against the drug offenders, the police have filed 231 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These cases have led to the apprehension of the 403 drug peddlers, including the 62 hardcore culprits who now face the legal consequences under PIT NDPS PSA.
Complete Suspension of Hazratbal Shrine Officers and Staff Due to Neglect of Duty
Seizure of Properties
In an unprecedented move, the Baramulla Police have attached properties belonging to drug peddlers, valued at Rs 2.1 crore. This includes three houses, three vehicles, and a significant cash amount of Rs 1.2 crore. Such actions not only disrupt the illegal drug trade but also serve as a deterrent to others involved in this criminal activity.
Drug Seizures and Reduction in Cases
The contraband seized during these operations is staggering: 2.670 kg of brown sugar (Rs 3.47 crore), 4.262 kg of heroin (Rs 5.96 crore), 11.245 kg of charas (Rs 56.22 lakh), and 194.492 kg of pomegranate straw and cannabis powder (Rs 1.16 crore). Additionally, 28 vehicles used in drug trafficking were confiscated.
The concerted efforts of the Baramulla Police have resulted in a significant decline in drug-related cases. While the first half of the year saw an alarming surge, with 40 cases in April alone, this trend has reversed since July, with only 18 cases reported in September.
The citizens of Baramulla district have shown unwavering support and trust in the police force’s actions against drugs. The police remain committed to eradicating drug trafficking from the district and continue to seize both movable and immovable properties linked to illicit drug activities.
In a bid to further combat the menace, the police have urged the public to come forward with any information about drug peddlers in their communities. The collaborative effort between the police and the citizens is crucial in creating a drug-free society. Together, they are determined to rid Baramulla of the scourge of drugs.
