Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 7.9°C, below normal by 3.7°C for the winter capital of J&K. Other regions such as Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah reported varying temperatures as well. The diverse temperature readings indicate the complex weather patterns prevalent across the region.

While the 40-day harsh winter period known as ‘Chillai-Kalan’ concluded on January 29, and the subsequent 20-day-long winter period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ ended on February 19, Kashmir is currently experiencing the middle 10-day-long period known as ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold), culminating on March 1.

In summary, Jammu and Kashmir residents should brace themselves for unsettled weather conditions, with the possibility of precipitation, fluctuating temperatures, and the continuation of the winter transition period known as ‘Chillai-Bachha’.
