Anticipated Weather Change in JK from Feb 27

Officials have forecasted a return of rainfall and snowfall activity in Jammu and Kashmir for a span of five days starting Tuesday. This comes after the region experienced three consecutive days of incessant rain and snowfall earlier this week.

Upcoming Weather Patterns

As of Monday evening, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar reported no significant weather activity. However, a notable shift in weather conditions is expected from Tuesday onwards, with the possibility of light rain or scattered snow in various areas until forenoon.

Extended Forecast: March 1–3

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department predicts a likelihood of light to moderate rain or snow across most places in Jammu and Kashmir from March 1 to 3. Heavy rain or snow is anticipated in a few middle and higher reaches, with the peak activity of this weather system projected for March 2 and 3. During these three days, there’s also a chance of thunder, lightning, and hailstorms, accompanied by gusty winds in select locations.

Changing Climate in Kashmir

Despite a prolonged dry spell earlier in the year, Kashmir has recently experienced two substantial spells of snowfall. This shift in weather patterns indicates a noteworthy departure from the dry conditions witnessed in the region.

Persisting Cold Conditions

While weather patterns evolve, freezing cold conditions persisted in the Kashmir Valley during the last night. Meteorological reports indicate that the night temperatures reached minus 3.1 °C in Srinagar, minus 9 °C in Gulmarg, and minus 7.4 °C in Pahalgam. Jammu recorded 8.3 °C, Katra 5.4, Batote 0.1, Bhaderwah minus 2.2, and Banihal minus 1.6 as the minimum temperatures.

In summary, Jammu and Kashmir are gearing up for a dynamic weather change, with precipitation expected over the next five days, bringing relief from the recent dry spell and impacting various regions differently.
