Train Derails in Raigad, Disrupting Panvel-Vasai Route
In an unfortunate incident on a Saturday afternoon, a goods train derailed in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, leading to a disruption in operations along the Panvel-Vasai route, as reported by the Central Railway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this preliminary information.
Central Railway’s Statement
Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Shivraj Manaspure, provided details of the incident. He mentioned that four wagons, including a brake van, of a freight train en route to Vasai (in Palghar district) from Panvel (in Raigad district), derailed on the Panvel-Kalamboli section around 3:05 pm. He further noted, “ART (Accident relief train) from Kalyan and Kurla stations is being sent to the accident site,” and confirmed the dispatch of a Road ART from Panvel to the scene.

Restoration Efforts Underway
Manaspure assured that restoration work would commence shortly. Following the derailment, at least five passenger trains were detained at various points along the Konkan-Mumbai route.
Impact on Navi Mumbai Suburban Services
Fortunately, Navi Mumbai suburban services running between the Panvel-CSMT section remained unaffected. This is because the incident occurred on the Panvel-Kalamboli railway line, which extends further towards Mumbai and Vasai.
Upcoming Mega Block
It’s worth noting that railway authorities have planned a 38-hour mega block between Panvel and Belapur stations of Harbour and Trans-Harbour corridors. This block is set to begin on Saturday night and is intended for the construction of two new lines under the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
