J-K Gears Up for Second Highest Security in Lok Sabha Polls
Ensuring Electoral Peace in Jammu and Kashmir
The Election Commission (EC) has greenlit the deployment of a substantial 635 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This decision, marking the second-highest deployment nationwide, is a strategic move to guarantee a peaceful and secure electoral process in the region. West Bengal takes the lead with 920 companies, underlining the gravity of the security situation in these states.
Strategic Deployment for Regional Stability
To maintain order and prevent potential violence during the elections, Jammu and Kashmir will witness heightened security measures. The EC’s decision reflects a commitment to ensuring the safety of voters, candidates, and election officials. Approximately 3,400 CAPF companies are slated for deployment across all states and Union Territories in phased sequences, emphasizing the nationwide significance of securing the electoral process.
Leadership in Security Oversight
In Jammu and Kashmir, the critical task of monitoring the deployment of paramilitary forces falls under the purview of CEO Pandurang Kondbarao Pole. The responsibility for ensuring the smooth coordination and execution of security measures rests with Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order Vijay Kumar, who will serve as the Special Police Nodal Officer. This division of responsibilities emphasizes the meticulous planning and organization needed to execute a secure electoral process.
Guarding the Pillars of Democracy
A focused deployment of 36 paramilitary companies will specifically address the protection of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Strong Rooms, and counting center arrangements. A senior government official underscores the importance of these security measures, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. The objective is clear: to facilitate citizens in exercising their democratic rights without fear or intimidation, reinforcing the core principles of a free and fair election.
