Budgam Police Seize Illegally Procured-Rice, Arrest Four in Central Kashmir
On Friday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully intervened in an illegal rice procurement operation, leading to the seizure of 8 quintals of rice and the apprehension of four suspects in the Budgam district of Central Kashmir.
A spokesperson for the police reported, “Today, Budgam Police thwarted a black marketing endeavor by confiscating 800 kilograms of rice intended for government ration depots. During a routine checkpoint at Arath Crossing, the Police Post Soibugh intercepted a load carrier identified by the chassis number (*BBXWRC 66797 Chasis) carrying three individuals.”
“Upon preliminary interrogation, the suspects revealed their identities as Nisar Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rashid Lone, residing in Singapora Pattan; Ab Qayoom Bhat, son of Sonaullah Bhat, from Singhpora Pattan; and Ab Majid Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, hailing from Arath Budgam,” the spokesperson stated.
Further detailing the operation, he mentioned, “Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered 16 sacks, each containing 50 kilograms of rice. The initial questioning revealed that the rice was purchased from a fair shop at Arath, operated by Gh. Nabi Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, residing in Arath Budgam. Subsequently, all four suspects were arrested, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was impounded.”
A case, FIR No 41/2024, has been registered at the Budgam Police Station under relevant sections of the law, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
