Chilling Temperatures Grip Kashmir, MeT Office Forecasts Prolonged Cold Spell
Persistent cold gripped Kashmir on Friday, persisting due to a clear night sky that kept minimum temperatures below normal in the Jammu division. According to a statement from the Meteorological (MeT) Department, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg had minus 9 degrees Celsius, and Pahalgam experienced minus 10.3 degrees Celsius.
In the Ladakh region, Leh town faced a bone-chilling minus 16.1 degrees Celsius, while Kargil recorded an even lower temperature of minus 19.8 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
Meanwhile, in Jammu division, the night’s lowest temperatures were reported as follows: Jammu city at 5.3 degrees Celsius, Katra at 5.8 degrees Celsius, Batote at 3.3 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah at minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, and Banihal at 2 degrees Celsius.
The MeT office anticipates dry weather with a clear night sky persisting until February 14, indicating that the biting cold is expected to persist for another four to five days.
