Pakistan Government Approves IT Ministry’s Cybersecurity Project to Deter Attacks
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet recently greenlit a technical supplementary grant of Rs10 billion for the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) aimed at bolstering the Digital Information Infrastructure Initiative. This initiative seeks to equip the national critical information infrastructure with the necessary technical capabilities to proactively detect potential cyber threats and prevent cyber security breaches. The decision was announced in a Finance Ministry press release following an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar. The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Mohammad Ali, Planning Minister Sami Saeed, Communication Minister Shahid Ashraf Tarar, IT Minister Umar Saif, and other officials.
In addition to the approval for the Digital Information Infrastructure Initiative, the ECC also gave the green light to the proposal from the Petroleum Division regarding the “Re-grant of Sui Development and Production Lease” after receiving endorsement from the Balochistan Government. Furthermore, a summary from the Ministry of Maritimes Affairs concerning the “Revised Fee of Issuance of Certificate of Quality and Origin and Other Certificates for Fish and Fishery Products under Pakistan Fish Inspection and Quality Control Rules, 1998” was approved. The ECC directed the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Maritimes Affairs to explore additional investment opportunities.
