AAP to Challenge Summons in Court
Hours after the Rouse Avenue Court issued summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) asserted that they would challenge the legality of all Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons. AAP stated that they are studying the court order and will take action in accordance with the law. The Rouse Avenue Court had taken cognizance of the recent ED complaint against Kejriwal for non-compliance with summons related to the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.
BJP Claims “Victory of Truth”
Reacting to the court summons, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa declared it as a “victory of truth.” He highlighted that Kejriwal had been summoned by the court on February 17, and this development signifies the triumph of truth. Sirsa emphasized that after Lalu Yadav, Kejriwal might become the serving Chief Minister with the longest jail term.
ED’s Persistent Summons in Money Laundering Probe
The ED filed a fresh complaint case against Kejriwal for non-attendance in compliance with the summons. Kejriwal had skipped the ED’s summons for the fifth time on February 2 in connection with the money laundering probe related to irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22. The party deemed the summons “unlawful.” The ED aims to record Kejriwal’s statement regarding the policy’s formulation, pre-finalization meetings, and bribery allegations. In a charge sheet filed in December 2023, the ED alleged that the AAP used kickbacks worth Rs 45 crore generated via the policy for its election campaign in Goa in 2022. The excise policy aimed to revitalize Delhi’s liquor business, introducing discounts and offers for the first time.
