Parliament Budget Session Extended Till February 10
The ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, expected to be the last before Lok Sabha polls, has been extended by a day until February 10. Initially scheduled to conclude on February 9, the extension aims to address necessary government business. President Droupadi Murmu’s address on January 31 initiated the session, which has seen discussions on various topics, including the possibility of the government presenting a ‘white paper’ on the economy, comparing the performance of the Congress-led UPA government with the BJP-led NDA government over the last decade.
Extension in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha
In Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla announced the extension based on the proposal by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also extended the session by one day in Rajya Sabha. The decision to prolong the session comes amidst anticipation regarding the government’s presentation of the ‘white paper’ on the economy.
White Paper on Economy Anticipation
The Modi government has planned to present a ‘white paper’ comparing the economic performance of the Congress-led UPA government’s 10 years with the BJP-led NDA government’s decade. This announcement was made during the Union Interim Budget presentation on February 1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the government’s successful efforts in overcoming economic crises and steering the economy toward sustainable growth. The ‘white paper’ aims to draw lessons from past mismanagement and provide insights into the country’s economic trajectory.
