Fatal Landslide near Shimla Two Migrant Workers Dead
Two migrant workers lost their lives in a landslide along Junga Road, located 20 kilometers from Shimla, in the early hours of Tuesday. The tragic incident unfolded as the two men from Bihar were sleeping inside a makeshift shelter near a stone crusher at Ashwani Khud on the Mehli-Junga road, approximately at 3:30 am. Fortunately, five other laborers in the vicinity were able to escape the landslide.
Shimla’s Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Gandhi, reported that the victims, identified as Rakesh Kumar, 34, and Rajesh Kumar, 36, were recovered from the site and subsequently sent for post-mortem examination at the local Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap visited the location and stated that a rescue team, consisting of personnel from the police, fire brigade, State Disaster Response Force, and home guards, promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving the incident report. The injured individuals, namely Rahul Kumar, 18, Megh Sahni, 42, Baijnath Ram, 35, and Ashok Ram, 45, all hailing from Bihar, along with Tony Kumar, 20, from Chamba, were receiving medical treatment at the time of the report.
