Healthcare Crisis Looms in Gurez: Critical Staff Shortages Raise Alarms
The healthcare sector in Gurez, North Kashmir’s border town, is grappling with a significant crisis due to the absence of key staff in essential positions. The situation is particularly dire in three Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Bagtore, Sheikhpora, and Budugam, which lack X-ray technicians despite having equipped facilities for X-ray services.
Staff Deficiencies at the Core of the Problem
These health centers have been without dentists for several years, and even PHCs like Chrowan and Kilshay are facing shortages of doctors. Residents of Bosgay village, home to 30 families, express concern over the absence of a health center, adding to the overall healthcare challenges in remote areas.
Patients Forced to Travel Long Distances
The inadequate healthcare infrastructure and lack of specialist doctors force patients to embark on long journeys to receive necessary medical care. The absence of timely and specialized medical attention contributes to on-road deliveries and unfortunate fatalities, exacerbating the strain on the already overburdened healthcare system.
Call for Urgent Government Intervention
Residents of snow-bound areas, including Bagtore, Dawar, and Tulail, highlight the need for gynecologists, especially during the winter months when heavy snowfall isolates these areas. The Dawar hospital, lacking a proper heating system and facing staff shortages, emphasizes the urgency for comprehensive development in PHCs, sub-centers, and other healthcare facilities.
