Shah Rukh Khan and Mani Ratnam, who previously collaborated on the 1998 film “Dil Se,” expressed their desire to work together again at the CNN-News18 Indian Of The Year 2023 event. During the event, Shah Rukh Khan playfully tried to persuade Mani Ratnam to cast him in a new project, even going so far as to promise to dance on top of a plane for the iconic song “Chaiyya Chaiyya.”

In a light-hearted moment, Shah Rukh Khan pleaded with Mani Ratnam, saying, “I’m requesting you, I’m begging you, and I’m telling you every time to do a film with me. I swear, this time, I’ll dance on top of the plane for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ if you tell me… And, good evening Suhasini (Mani Ratnam’s wife). I told you that time to tell him ‘Shah Rukh, Shah Rukh’ before he sleeps.”

When asked about the possibility of another collaboration, Mani Ratnam humorously responded that he would consider it “when he (Shah Rukh) buys a plane.” Shah Rukh Khan, boasting about the success of his films in 2023, including “Pathaan” and “Jawan,” teased Mani Ratnam by saying, “Mani, let me just tell you, the way my films are doing… this plane is not far away.” To this, Mani Ratnam jokingly assured, “I’ll bring it down to earth, don’t worry.”

A fan, capturing the amusing exchange, shared a clip on social media, stating, “Shah Rukh Khan’s pitch to Mani Ratnam for another film after ‘Dil Se’ is so wholesome. SRK said he will dance to ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ on top of a plane this time.”

“Dil Se,” directed by Mani Ratnam, was a love story set against the backdrop of insurgency in the northeast. The film featured the iconic song “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” composed by AR Rahman and penned by Gulzar. The fan-favorite track was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi, with choreography by Farah Khan, who won the Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for the song that year.

In a previous interview from 2017, Shah Rukh Khan shared insights into the filming of “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” describing the experience as ‘very scary’ due to the scenes being shot on a moving train. He revealed that the dancers were tied to the train for safety during the shoot, while he, being the lead, was left untethered for the dynamic dance sequences, involving jumps and spins.
