Dunki Hits ₹283 Crore at Global Box Office on Day 6, Eyes ₹300 Crore Club; Faces Tough Competition from “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire
On its sixth day at the global box office, “Dunki,” directed by Rajkumar Hirani and featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in prominent roles, continues to make waves. The film, which premiered in theaters on December 22, delves into the realms of friendships, borders, homesickness, and love. Although it initially received a mix of reviews, Dunki has maintained its strength in international markets, impressively crossing the ₹200 crore mark globally within the first five days. As of now, the film has amassed a total collection of ₹283 crore.
Anticipating entry into the coveted ₹300 crore club worldwide, Red Chillies Entertainment took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share an updated box office poster on Wednesday. The poster proudly displays the film’s global box office collection, stating, “On a global journey of love! 283.13 crore worldwide GBOC.” The accompanying caption expresses gratitude, saying, “With your love, this journey is unstoppable!”
“Dunki” weaves a comedic drama around the theme of an illicit immigration method known as ‘donkey flight.’ Alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, the movie features a stellar cast, including Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover. During an Ask SRK session on Wednesday, Shah Rukh Khan declared his preference for “Dunki” when asked to choose a favorite among his recent releases, “Jawan” and “Pathaan.” He explained, “When you have to deal with varied emotions, it’s always more of a work for an actor. So Dunki it is.”
Despite its success, “Dunki” finds itself in a formidable face-off with the Prabhas-starrer “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” which also premiered on December 22. Directed by Prashanth Neel, this action-packed spectacle, featuring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran as friends turned arch-rivals, has shattered numerous box office records. Within three days of its release, “Salaar” reportedly grossed over ₹400 crore globally, securing a dominant position at the international box office. Variety’s recent report placed “Salaar” at the 3rd spot, with “Dunki” following closely in the 4th position during the pre-Christmas weekend. The clash between these cinematic giants adds an extra layer of excitement to the ongoing box office race.
