Odisha Gears Up to Host National Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha is set to host the Junior and Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships for the 2023-24 season at the Gymnastics Centre within Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium.
In collaboration with the Odisha Gymnastics Association and the Gymnastics Federation of India, this championship promises to be a platform for top gymnasts nationwide to showcase their talents.
Scheduled from December 28-30, 2023, for the Junior Championship, and January 2-4, 2024, for the Senior Championship in the state capital, the event anticipates the participation of 750 individuals.
This comprises 550 players, 120 support staff, and 100 officials from various parts of India, making it a grand display of gymnastics prowess.
With 28 affiliated units from the Gymnastics Federation of India participating, the event promises a diverse and competitive field. Athletes from across the nation will gather at the Gymnastics Centre, equipped with advanced facilities used for both senior and grassroots-level athlete training.
Expressing enthusiasm ahead of the event, Vineel Krishna, Secretary of Sports & Youth Services in Odisha, highlighted gymnastics as a priority sport for the state.
He welcomed the participants and stressed the opportunity for Odisha’s gymnasts to learn and grow from this national stage.
Sudhir Mital, President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, commended Bhubaneswar for its exceptional infrastructure and facilities to host such a prestigious championship. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Odisha and the Odisha Gymnastics Association for their unwavering support in the preparation and execution of the Championships.
The event will witness fierce competition among the country’s best gymnasts across both Junior and Senior categories.
Notable names like Olympian Pranati Nayak, Yogeshwar Singh, Rakesh Patra, and others are set to grace the Senior Championship, promising an exciting display of talent.
The recent inauguration of the Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High-Performance Centre at Kalinga Stadium, spearheaded by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in July 2023, has further bolstered the training facilities available to nurture the nation’s gymnastics talent.
