Indian Women’s Hockey 34-Member Squad Announced for Training Camp
Hockey India unveiled the 34-member core probable group for the Senior Women’s National Coaching Camp, which is scheduled to kick off from December 27 at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru. This camp holds immense importance for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, gearing up for the crucial FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers Ranchi 2024 and the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024.
After their recent participation in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 in Spain against Belgium, Germany, Ireland, and Spain, the team will regroup for extensive training sessions. Their focus remains set on securing a spot in the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers Ranchi 2024, scheduled from January 13 to January 19. India is placed in Pool B, facing New Zealand, Italy, and the United States.
Following this, India will showcase their skills in the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024 in Muscat, Oman, slated to commence on January 24 and conclude on January 27.
The 34-member squad encompasses goalkeepers Savita, Rajani Etimarpu, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Bansari Solanki. The defenders’ group comprises players like Deep Grace Ekka, Gurjit Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Akshata Abaso Dhekale, Jyoti Chhatri, and Mahima Chaudhary. The midfielders’ line-up includes Nisha, Salima Tete, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, and others. The forwards’ group consists of Lalremsiami, Navneet Kaur, Vandana Katariya, and others.
The team’s Chief Coach, Janneke Schopman, emphasized the camp’s significance, aiming to refine the team’s tactics and strategies after their successful performance at the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023.
Schopman emphasized the team’s readiness for the upcoming qualifiers and stated, “Our focus remains on refining our game to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. We’ve identified areas for improvement and will utilize this camp to ensure we are physically, tactically, and mentally prepared.”
The meticulously chosen squad looks forward to honing their skills, ensuring a strong performance in the upcoming challenges, striving for Olympic qualification and a commendable display at the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024.
