Army Chief Reviews Counter-Terror Measures Post Poonch-Rajouri Attacks
In the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, India’s Army chief, General Manoj Pande, is scheduled to visit Jammu on Monday to assess the prevailing situation and explore strategies for enhancing the counter-terrorism measures in the region, according to defense sources.
This visit follows a tragic incident a few days ago in which four troops lost their lives during a terrorist attack on a convoy near Thanandi in the Rajouri sector of the state.
During his visit to Jammu, General Pande is expected to engage in discussions about both recent and ongoing counter-terrorist operations, as well as the casualties incurred in the recent wave of terror attacks, as per defense sources.
The 16 Corps, responsible for the Poonch-Rajouri sectors, is undergoing a routine change in command, with Lt Gen Sandeep Jain handing over the reins to Lt Gen Naveen Sachdev.
The Army Headquarters is closely monitoring the situation, maintaining a vigilant eye on operations in the region. Additionally, the Army is likely to reassign responsibilities to officers with experience in handling situations where multiple attacks on troops have occurred.
Recent times have witnessed two to three significant attacks in the 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles area, prompting considerations for a change of command. Furthermore, high-level defense ministry officials are anticipated to visit the region this week to receive briefings on the ground situation and to be informed about the measures being implemented to counter the surge in activities by Pakistani terrorists.
The Indian Army is proactively reinforcing its preparedness along the Line of Control and the International Border, areas from which these infiltrating terrorists have been attempting to breach Indian territory.
