Tensions Rise in Pakistan Tehreek Insaf Amid Alleged State Machinery Interference
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faces a somber atmosphere despite Supreme Court directives as reported by The Express Tribune, detailing the continued heavy-handed actions by state machinery, including the arrests of PTI-affiliated candidates.
Muhammad Yahya Rasheed, representing PTI’s NA-127 candidate Ejaz Chaudhry, lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding an incident at the Returning Officer (RO) Office.
Rasheed recounted how a significant police contingent raided the office during the submission of nomination papers, seizing the papers and detaining two employees without valid cause.
RO Hassan Gillani allegedly disclaimed control over the situation, leaving Rasheed with no recourse except legal action. Such events raise serious concerns about ensuring fair elections, prompting Advocate Yahya to demand the recovery of Chaudhry’s papers from the police, as per The Express Tribune.
Concurrently, PTI posted on X platform about Advocate High Court Waqar Mushtaq’s arrest while submitting papers for Ammar Bashir from PP-162. PTI cited hurdles faced in Lahore involving officials, police, and unidentified individuals obstructing the process.
Earlier incidents revealed distressing patterns. PTI’s Central Punjab VP Akmal Bari was reportedly abducted, while PTI Central Punjab President Hammad Azhar faced rejections of nominations on higher authority orders.
Furthermore, there were reports of the lawyer for Insaf Youth Wing Lahore president being abducted during paper submission, and police interference during nomination submissions for various PTI leaders.
Videos circulated on social media depicted instances where police and civilians allegedly attempted to obstruct or seize nomination papers.
These ongoing incidents paint a worrying picture, raising questions about the conduct of transparent and unbiased elections.
The Tribune Express highlighted these challenges within PTI Lahore, with instances of police allegedly mistreating individuals associated with the party during the crucial nomination process.
