PTI to Contest ECP Decision Stripping ‘Bat’ Symbol; Gohar Ali Khan Vows Legal Action

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared its intention to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) verdict, which revoked the party’s electoral symbol, the ‘Bat’. PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced plans to approach either the Peshawar High Court (PHC) or the Supreme Court following the ECP’s decision against retaining the ‘bat’ symbol for the upcoming February 8 general election.

Gohar, addressing the media outside Adiala Jail, confirmed PTI’s preparation to file a petition to regain the ‘bat’ symbol, revealing that consultations on this matter were nearly concluded. He indirectly accused the ECP of a conspiracy to deny PTI the 227 reserved seats, critical in determining crucial government roles.

The PTI leader highlighted the significance of these reserved seats, noting their role in the selection of key officials such as the president, prime minister, chief minister, and Senate chairman, based on the strength of parties in the assemblies.

Expressing dissatisfaction, Gohar labeled the ECP’s decision as unsustainable and contradictory, expressing confidence in PTI’s eventual success through legal recourse. He asserted that the party’s electoral symbol would be restored, awaiting the certified copy of the ECP’s ruling.

Hinting at potential Supreme Court intervention under Article 184 of the Constitution, Gohar reaffirmed Imran Khan’s continued chairmanship within PTI and his dedication to fulfilling duties entrusted by Khan until the latter’s release from incarceration.

Emphasizing the potential ramifications of unfair elections on the country, Gohar cautioned that such occurrences could lead to chaos and anarchy. PTI remains resolute in challenging the ECP’s decision, aiming for the restoration of its electoral symbol through legal means.
