Court Extends Custody of Accused in Parliament Breach Case
Delhi’s Patiala House Court has prolonged the custody of Mahesh Kumawat, the sixth accused in the Parliament security breach case, by an additional 13 days.
The extension was granted by Special Judge Dr Hardeep Kaur following the request from Delhi Police, allowing for further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police sought the extension citing the necessity to conduct a psychological evaluation of the accused, intending to derive crucial leads based on the psychological analysis report.
Mahesh Kumawat was presented before the special judge after the expiration of the initial 7-day police custody.
Arrested in connection with the Parliament security breach on December 13, Mahesh Kumawat’s involvement in the conspiracy was highlighted during the court proceedings.
Delhi Police revealed that he had attended numerous meetings across different cities over a period exceeding a year, where the plot was orchestrated.
According to the public prosecutor, Mahesh maintained contact with the other accused for two years, actively participating in various meetings, including aiding the destruction of a mobile phone and providing evidence to the alleged mastermind, Lalit Jha.
The police asserted that the accused, along with others, aimed to disrupt governance through unjust and unlawful means, intending to create chaos in the country.
Furthermore, Delhi Police’s Special Cell conducted psycho-analysis tests on all involved individuals, including Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat, at a government institute in Rohini, New Delhi.
Efforts are also underway to reactivate destroyed SIM cards, a move anticipated to unearth additional evidence and potential leads in the case.
