MoE Grants Special-Admission-Concessions for Kashmiri Migrants Nationwide

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has disclosed the approval of special concessions facilitating the admission of Kashmiri migrants’ wards throughout the nation.

In their annual report for the year 2022-23, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and the Department of School Education and Literacy for the Government of India (GoI), delineated these concessions.

The report underscores the Ministry’s endorsement of concessions for Kashmiri migrant students concerning their admission to educational institutions across the country. These concessions, extended to the offspring of both Kashmiri migrants and non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Hindu Families residing in the Valley, specifically relate to their admission to educational institutions in various regions of the nation.

The Ministry clarified that it has granted a ‘relaxation in cut-off percentage up to 10 per cent, subject to meeting minimum eligibility requirements.’ Additionally, there has been a 5 per cent increase in the intake capacity on a course-wise basis.

Moreover, the Ministry has implemented a policy to ‘reserve at least one seat in the merit quota in technical and professional institutions.’The announcement further specified the exemption of domicile requirements exclusively for Kashmiri migrants.

However, it is noteworthy that Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) residing in the Kashmir Valley still necessitate a domicile certificate.

In terms of supernumerary seats for students from Jammu and Kashmir in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the MoE unveiled that “Two seats [are] to be created under supernumerary quota in all recognized Higher Education Institutions for students from J&K.
