JKBOSE Rejects Forms,Puts J&K Private School Students at Academic Risk

The educational prospects of numerous students in Jammu and Kashmir are in limbo as the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) declines to accept examination forms from class 10th students enrolled in private schools situated on state-owned land. This stance has sparked concerns and raised questions about the Board’s actions, contradicting a High Court directive issued the previous year regarding a government mandate.

The predicament arose following the J&K government’s revision of rules under the Education Act 2002 in 2022, which introduced new guidelines for the use of land and building structures by private schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequently, the government ordered the immediate closure of private schools located on state land, directing them to halt education for enrolled students. Seeking relief, private school owners approached the J&K High Court, securing a stay on the government’s order. Justice Rahul Bharti, in the court order, emphasized the provisional recognition of the schools in the interest of justice and the students’ academic pursuits.

Despite the legal intervention, the refusal of JKBOSE to accept examination forms for class 10th students from these private schools jeopardizes the academic aspirations of thousands.Political figures in Kashmir have strongly responded to this development, urging a prompt resolution.

Apni Party Chief Altaf Bukhari expressed profound dissatisfaction, highlighting that the futures of approximately two lakh students hang in the balance. He stressed the importance of allowing students to sit for exams while deferring decisions about the fate of private schools to a later date.Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar also criticized the move, questioning the Board’s actions in contravention of a High Court order.

He remarked, “The refusal by JKBOSE to accept examination forms for class 10th students enrolled in these private schools has put the academic aspirations of thousands into jeopardy. It’s surprising to see that the JK BOSE is not accepting the forms of students enrolled in these schools despite the High Court orders.

Senior CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami condemned the J&K Board of School Education’s rejection of forms from students in private schools built on state land, terming it a “blatant disregard” of the High Court order.

Tarigami highlighted that this decision imperils the future of thousands of students and appealed to JKBOSE to immediately withdraw the order.
