Omar Abdullah Stays Committed to Article 370 Restoration Despite Supreme Court Decision
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed the party’s unwavering commitment to a prolonged struggle for the reinstatement of Article 370. Addressing the disappointing decision of the Supreme Court regarding the abrogation of Article 370 and the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Abdullah, during a live stream on X, remarked on the unexpected and regrettable verdict.
Abdullah stated, “The Supreme Court’s confirmation of the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir was not the outcome we anticipated. We were optimistic about justice prevailing for the people of Jammu and Kashmir through the highest court in the country. Regrettably, we were unable to persuade the five-judge bench, but we can affirm that our legal representatives, Kapil Sibal and Gopala Subramaniam, left no stone unturned in presenting our case. In this shared sense of disappointment, we extend our apologies to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and those across the nation who hoped for our success in this endeavor.

“Despite the setback, Abdullah reiterated the party’s determination to persist in the struggle for the restoration of constitutional and democratic rights in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the issue extends beyond the courtroom, framing it as a political, constitutional, and legal battle.
Abdullah referred to past judgments, such as the Sampat Prakash case, where a three-judge bench asserted the permanent status of Article 370 after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly.Abdullah commented, “Today’s decision by the five-judge bench contrasts with the previous ruling. Future benches may revisit and alter the decisions of today’s judges.
In terms of politics, did the BJP cease its efforts after the Sampat Prakash case? No, they did not. Over more than 70 years, they succeeded in achieving their goals. Similarly, we will persist in our efforts, employing constitutional and democratic means peacefully. We remain hopeful that a time will come when we can reclaim what has been taken from us, be it today or tomorrow.”
Acknowledging the setback, Abdullah assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that despite today’s failure, the struggle is far from over. He commended the resilience and patience of the people, particularly after the events of August 5, 2019, urging them to maintain a peaceful approach. Abdullah concluded, “This fight is not transient, and no one can predict when we will achieve our goal.
However, with unwavering determination, we will continue our struggle for the restoration of our rights.”
