Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Ladakh, expressed his appreciation for the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the abrogation of Article 370. Namgyal highlighted the significance of this verdict, emphasizing that it clarifies that Jammu and Kashmir does not hold sovereignty within India.

He credited Prime Minister Modi for the constitutional removal of Article 370 in 2019, asserting that it aligns with India’s constitutional framework and enhances confidence in the Prime Minister.

Namgyal hailed the verdict as a pivotal moment, anticipating that the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh would now have access to various government schemes that were previously impeded due to Article 370.

He congratulated PM Modi and the citizens for this outcome, foreseeing enhanced benefits for the region’s residents.

The Supreme Court, in its ruling, upheld the abrogation of Article 370 and mandated the Election Commission of India to conduct Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30, 2024.

Additionally, it directed the expeditious restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir and endorsed the reorganization of Ladakh as a Union Territory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Supreme Court’s decision. Modi hailed it as a beacon of hope, progress, and unity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah lauded the verdict, asserting that it validates the government’s constitutional approach and brought peace, normalcy, and development to the region, particularly in the domains of tourism and agriculture.

The apex court reserved the judgment after a comprehensive 16-day hearing and on August 5, 2019, the Central government announced the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370, bifurcating the region into two union territories.
