Erdogan Vows to Pursue ICC Action Against Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to do everything within his power to ensure the International Criminal Court (ICC) holds Israel accountable for what he termed as genocide in the Gaza Strip. This statement was reported by the Russian news agency TASS following Erdogan’s return from the COP28 summit in Dubai.

Erdogan’s Criticism of Israel and Supportive Nations

Erdogan criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for its actions in Gaza, asserting that the genocide is a “black mark” not only on Israel but also on countries that unconditionally support it. He emphasized that the silence of these nations will not be forgotten and they will be held accountable.

Legal Efforts Against Israel’s Actions in Gaza

According to Erdogan, approximately 3,000 lawyers, including Turkish ones, have filed petitions with the ICC concerning Israel’s actions in Gaza. Erdogan expects that those responsible, particularly Netanyahu, will be duly punished for their alleged involvement in the genocide.

Turkey’s Increased Efforts for Accountability

Erdogan affirmed Turkey’s commitment to remembering and highlighting the genocide, ensuring that Israel is held responsible. He emphasized ongoing efforts to halt Israeli attacks in Gaza and establish a lasting ceasefire.

Erdogan Labels Israel a “Terrorist State”

In a speech to his ruling party, Erdogan labeled Israel a “terrorist state,” according to CNN. He accused Israel of annihilating a city and its people, and pledged to initiate steps to bring Israeli political and military leaders to trial in international courts for their actions in Gaza.

Netanyahu’s Response to Erdogan’s Accusations

In response to Erdogan’s remarks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Erdogan of supporting Hamas, which Israel considers a terror state. Netanyahu stated that Israel would not accept lectures from Erdogan, highlighting Turkey’s internal conflicts and actions.
