Winter Session of Parliament: 21 Bills on Agenda
The upcoming Winter Session of the Indian Parliament, set to commence on December 4 and conclude on December 22, will have a packed schedule with 21 items slated for discussion, including 19 bills and two financial items. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi has confirmed the agenda for this session.
Key Bills and Legislative Agenda
Among the prominent bills to be discussed are the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which are considered significant. Other notable bills include the Repealing and Amending Bill, the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, and the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill.
Session Duration and Meetings
The Winter Session will encompass 15 sittings over a period of 19 days. The all-party meeting chaired by Rajnath Singh saw participation from 30 leaders across 23 parties, where several suggestions were received and discussed.
Jammu and Kashmir-Related Bills
Several bills related to Jammu and Kashmir will also be tabled. These include the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill.
Other Legislative Proposals
The legislative agenda also includes the Post Office Bill, The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, the Boilers Bill, and the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill. Additionally, the Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, and the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 are expected to be taken up.
Financial Business
The session will witness the Presentation, Discussion, and Voting on the First Batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2023-24 and the related Appropriation Bill. Additionally, there will be a discussion and voting on the Demands for Excess Grants for 2020-21 and the passage of the related Appropriation Bill.
