Cocaine Worth Rs 220 Crore Seized at Paradip Port

In a significant drug bust, officials at Paradip port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district seized cocaine valued at approximately Rs 220 crore. The narcotics were discovered on the Panama-registered cargo ship MV Debi, which had arrived from Egypt via Indonesia.

Discovery and Seizure of Cocaine

The discovery was made after a crane operator at the Paradip International Cargo Terminal noticed twenty-two suspicious packets and alerted the authorities. The powder-like substance inside these packets was later confirmed to be cocaine.

Investigation and Detainment

While no arrests have been made yet, the crew of MV Debi, all hailing from Vietnam, have been detained for further investigation. The Customs Commissionerate acted on intelligence inputs to conduct the search and confirmed the seizure’s value in the international market.
