DGP-Swain Issues Strict-Warning Against Social-Media Content Inciting Communal Tension in J-K
Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), RR Swain, issued a stern warning on Thursday, stating that engaging in the dissemination of videos, posting texts, and messages on social media with the potential to incite communal tension, disrupt peace, endorse terrorism, and advocate separatism would result in strict legal consequences.
Emphasizing the duty of the J&K police to prevent any form of disrespect towards Prophet Muhammad (SAW) or any religious group or community that could disturb peace and escalate violence, DGP Swain addressed reporters in Jammu. The discussion arose in light of a derogatory video posted on social media by an NIT student.DGP Swain highlighted that any objectionable content, including videos, messages, texts, or posts capable of disturbing peace, fostering communal discord, inciting violence, sparking street protests, and supporting terrorism and separatism, would be dealt with firmly according to the law.

He assured that the police would identify and apprehend anti-social elements, individuals against peace, and those with hidden agendas following thorough investigations.In response to inquiries about potential action against political parties accused of instigating unrest, DGP Swain asserted that the J&K police serve as custodians of the law. If specific actions by political leaders deliberately lead to loss of life, attacks, or property damage, they would be held accountable through the legal process, he added.
DGP Swain urged individuals who come across texts or videos capable of disturbing peace to promptly contact the relevant police station. He stressed that individuals should refrain from circulating content that could fuel communal disharmony and disrupt peace.
Expressing the police’s respect for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and their commitment to maintaining communal harmony in Kashmir, DGP Swain emphasized that no one would be permitted to damage or disrespect any religious community. Responding to queries about potential action against the NIT student, he stated that the law would take its own course in that regard.
