LAHORE: Pakistan’s first female space traveler, Namira Salim, is calling on the government to implement a comprehensive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education system in the country. Namira emphasizes the need for a focus on schoolgirls, ensuring their active participation in diverse fields on the international stage in the future.

In a telephonic interaction, Namira expressed pride in being the first Pakistani female space traveler and conveyed her determination to pursue even greater goals. Having previously planted the national flag at both the North Pole and South Pole, Namira’s adventurous spirit extends beyond the bounds of Earth.

A Celestial Perspective: Namira Salim’s Journey Beyond Earth

Reflecting on her space travel, Namira describes the awe-inspiring experience of witnessing the Earth from orbit. The blue, brown, and white world, the enchanting beauty of sunrise and sunset, and the sight of a half-moon left an indelible impression. Before her space mission, President Dr. Arif Alvi presented Namira with a national flag, symbolizing the representation of Pakistan in the cosmos.

Namira, aboard the Galactic 04 mission on Virgin Galactic, made history on October 7, 2023, as the first Pakistani in space. Currently, she is actively engaged in a project involving the creation of mini-satellites in collaboration with universities in the USA and Kenya.

Empowering the Future: Namira Salim’s Vision for STEM Education

Namira envisions a future where mini-satellites, crafted by students, carry messages from world leaders and religious scholars into orbit, spreading messages of love for humanity. Advocating for STEM education, Namira stresses the importance of engaging the private sector and encouraging opportunities for students, particularly schoolgirls, to excel in advanced studies.

Namira Salim expresses readiness to provide technical assistance to the Pakistani government and collaborate with local universities. She suggests that Pakistan join either the American or Russian space programs, emphasizing the potential for commercialization in space. Namira’s call is for a holistic approach, involving the government, private sector, and educational institutions, to elevate the intellectual prowess of local schoolgirls and position them as competitive global contenders.
