Suryakumar Yadav to Captain India in T20I Series Against Australia
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked T20I batter, will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia. The series is set to begin on November 23, 2023, in Visakhapatnam, marking a new chapter for the Indian team following their recent campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Series Schedule and Venues
The first match of the series will be held in Visakhapatnam on November 23, soon after India’s World Cup journey ended. The subsequent matches will be hosted across different cities, with the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on November 26, the third in Guwahati on November 28, the fourth in Raipur on December 1, and the final match in Bengaluru on December 3.
Changes in the Team Line-Up
India’s squad will see some changes due to Hardik Pandya’s absence because of an ankle injury. Shreyas Iyer will step in as vice-captain for the last two matches in Raipur and Bengaluru, while Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as deputy to Suryakumar for the first three T20Is. Noticeably, Sanju Samson is not included in the squad for the series.
Young Talent and Experienced Players in the Squad
The Indian squad features a mix of young talent and experienced players. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, who contributed to India’s gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, are part of the team. Suryakumar, Shreyas, Ishan Kishan, and Prasidh Krishna, who played in the Cricket World Cup, will bring their experience to the team. However, senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami will not be part of the squad.
India’s Squad for the Series
The Indian team for the T20I series comprises Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.
