He drew parallels between his films ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,’ emphasizing the evolution of storytelling, character development, and societal themes over a span of 25 years.
The Evolution of Characters and Politics in Film
Johar expressed his satisfaction with the progression of Indian cinema, particularly in terms of how characters and the underlying politics in movies have evolved. He highlighted the advancements in the portrayal of family dynamics, love, and gender equality in his films, from ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ in 1998 to his latest release in 2023.
Success of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’
Released on July 28, 2023, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ became a box office hit, crossing the Rs 150 crore mark in India. The film, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is a love story between a Punjabi businessman and a Bengali journalist. It also featured veteran actors Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan, marking another successful directorial venture for Johar.
